Why fernando torres left liverpool
It was only happy times. Torres soured himself to some Liverpool supporters when he left in January to join Chelsea, but he has admitted he had to leave Anfield to fulfil his ambition — winning trophies. I thought that was the club to offer me more chance of winning trophies.
Fernando Torres has revealed he left Liverpool to sign for rivals Chelsea back in because he was 'lied to by the club's owners' and was running out of time to win trophies.
Torres' January deadline-day move was met with huge shock at the time but the now retired year-old has lifted the lid on why he decided to leave Anfield. Fernando Torres was prolific during his four-year spell at Liverpool between and American businessmen George Gillett and Tom Hicks had owned Liverpool during much of Torres' time at the club but they were forced to sell in to Fenway Sports Group after racking up huge debts and their working relationship broke down.
Torres admitted that the precarious financial situation the club had found themselves in was a significant contributing factor to him departing. Liverpool had to start selling their stars like Xabi Alonso and Torres wasn't far behind. Expectations at Stamford Bridge were high but Torres never showed the deadly form which had made him one of the world's best forwards.
Torres doesn't have any regrets about joining Chelsea but takes responsibility for failing to perform for them. Torres struggled for form at Chelsea and admitted he was to blame for not performing. The Spaniard enjoyed some fine moments for Chelsea, scoring a famous goal at Barcelona. He added: 'It was maybe my fault for not being able to adapt quicker. I had really good moments but I was not consistent.
I was able to be close to the fans again, to feel their warmth. It made me so happy. Before, you asked me about experiences versus trophies and this day was a good one to show the importance of feeling a connection. I want to go to Anfield when it is possible again to watch a game because I love the club. They finally won the league after 30 years and I was so happy for Liverpool.
I celebrated when they won the Champions League, but I know what the Premier League means for the fans and they really deserved to have that joy. I was thinking to move to America, but Atleti came and rescued me with a chance to play at my home again.
Then I decided to move to Japan so my family could experience a completely different culture, different country, different language. And it was a really nice experience in a personal way. And what next? Right now I only want to enjoy my family. Enjoy my time. I have free the weekends now for the first period since I was a child. Everything goes so quick and you don't really enjoy things, you are not aware of the reality.
You are living inside your bubble. I'm very proud for everything I did in football. I made many mistakes, but I learned from them. They still are by my side. I became a good player because I had good people around me. And also, that football is more than trophies. You can see the people are still enjoying.
They are one of the contenders in the last few years; also this season. Regardless of what any fan may still think of Torres, his love of Liverpool still runs deep.
