Should i put a reflex sight on a handgun
The action was reminiscent of pulling the charging handle on an AR The right angle created by the DeltaPoint Pro and the slide would come in handy during one-handed manipulation of the pistol, when you're forced to hook the slide on a holster, belt, boot heel or similar object to cycle the slide. The DeltaPoint Pro provides a wider field-of view than most other reflex sights on the market.
I was able to shoot with booth eyes open without feeling like my view was obstructed. I've shot pistols with other reflex sights, but they didn't seem to offer as wide a view as the DeltaPoint Pro. I also appreciated the DeltaPoint Pro's ease of use.
Adjusting for elevation and windage was accomplished with a few turns of the screws, with each click of the dial equaling one MOA. Another huge benefit to the DeltaPoint Pro is that you don't have to remove the unit to replace the 3V CR lithium battery. I've long held the opinion that reflex sights on pistols are the wave of the future. Now, you can mount one directly to your pistol without permanently modifying the slide.
There are back-up sight options that you can trust in the event the illuminated aiming point fails. The DeltaPoint Pro was rather intuitive. Those rounds to the left weren't intended to strike the designated shaded area of the target. Instead, I was aiming for very small markings. Thanks to forward-thinking companies like Leupold, there's no need to settle for "good enough" when it comes to aiming your pistol. And with the right hardware, the DeltaPoint Pro can be mounted to your rifle or shotgun.

The older you get the harder it is for most to focus on that front sight or even see it. Picking up that red dot is a ton easier. Add movement and it gets even better. Using solid basics, recoil and muzzle control and proper training you will be more accurate, faster, and have better repeat shots using a dot in most every situation.
Bring the pistol to target the same way you always have, and there will be a dot there — generally before the front sight. Stay focused on that dot, just like your front sight there is just no need to align the rear, if the dots on target you are too. Keep the dot on target and press away with a smooth straight trigger pull disturbing that dot as little as you can. If you feel like your sight must survive punishment there are a few proven examples, or at least mostly proven.
Designed to withstand as much punishment as an MRDS can they are about as rugged as it gets, proven in testing and during duty and military use. Given time, testing, and an ever increasing demand, those choices will increase. Carry sights need to be strong and hold up to daily use, but can be smaller and easier to conceal fitting on smaller pistols. Their new RMS-W is water proof and uses a harder glass screen. With new sights hitting the market almost monthly there are a ton of choices that are excellent for most.
Vortex has offered several sights for years, Crimson Trace has jumped into this market with a vengeance. Holosun has really started to catch on and offer a full line of quality sights. One of the more daunting and honestly irritating issues with a pistol RDS is mounting them on your pistol.
It seems as if everyone else is doing their own thing. Everyone seems to put their locking pins in a different spot. Many factory pistols will offer plates that fit into their slide that let you use several of them. Both use the Shield RMSc pattern, perfect for their size.
Universal seems to be the thing for factory offerings, but custom CNC machining is available for just about anything. Ultimately the fit at the front and rear of the RDS in the cut the less it beats up the sight.
My personal preference and recommendation is that carry or duty pistols have back up iron sights that can be co-witnessed if possible. Whether the rear is in front or behind the RDS is personal preference, or dictated by space on the slide.
Red dots on pistols are notorious for having a steep learning curve. I wanted zero learning curve and to be able to take advantage of the highly refined draw stroke and presentation that I already had.
I wanted to be able to blindly draw any Glock, use the exact same presentation, and have the sights or dot come up into automatic alignment between my dominant eye and the target without any lag. Switching to a red dot may mean that some of your holsters no longer work.
Also, if you happen to carry muzzle down in a shoulder holster as a deep concealment method as I do , the bump of a red dot is very visible from behind. So, basically, I wanted all of the advantages of a red dot with zero learning curve and none of the drawbacks that are typical of switching from irons to a red dot.
In this case, I identified the factors, stacked the odds in my favor, and went from not shooting a red dot to putting one on my carry gun on a Saturday, making sure I could hit steel with it for a few rounds, purposely NOT doing rapid fire or dry fire reps, and shooting a match the next day. I was able to draw and engage quickly and shoot -0 body and head shots with.
For some people, this is going to be old news…for most, it will be very helpful and save a TON of wasted time and frustration. Co-witnessing is simply having both your iron sights and your red dot visible and usable at the same time without needing to move your dominant eye or the gun.
These notches can be shallow or deep, depending on your preference. With a cut or melted slide and a dot that sits low, you can see and use either your factory height sights or the red dot at the exact same time.
That means that I either switch the sights on every single one or I keep them all at factory sight height.
