Why do people like saab

My absolute favourite feature of my Saab is the 'Night Panel' button, which turns off all screens, the majority of the lights, all the dials apart from the speedo which you can cleverly select if you want a portion of the speedo lit, or the whole thing for when you're doing v-max runs in the night.

Why this is still a rare feature on cars today baffles me as it makes nighttime driving an absolute joy. The seats are dead comfy, practically like 'arm chair's' to coin the phrase. Seriously though, Saab were very good at making seats that are both comfortable and supportive if not quite enough laterally. Let me try and convince you a little bit more. Spend the time hunting down a good one, in the right spec and you never know Obviously the base spec diesel is never really going to have any worth, but an ultra desirable and rare Turbo X with the 2.

Yes please! Parts are still largely available for most models and there are loads of Saab specialist up and down the country. Electronics could be a cause for concern, particularly the generation in bought as these use a lot of fibre optics in its wiring. That being said mine had over k on it when I sold it on and everything still worked as it should have.

Like any car, always do your research and you might just bag yourself a nice little slice of exclusivity! If you go this far, well done and thank you for reading! Great article! I love my SAAB I've had it 4 years now and have only had to replace the radiator bottle.

I've lowered it, with coilovers to come soon. The engine is factory except for a FMIC and air intake. I drive her hard over the mountain around where I live, and she eats up every kilometer and begs for more. She's never missed a beat and always drives so smoothly and comfortably. The minimal understeer is almost negligible. Love it to bits and would have another SAAB in a heartbeat. They have a beautiful character to them, and such an enjoyable demeanor, even when being pushed. Rarely gets out of shape, but if i do push it too hard, she's very easy to recover.

For a FWD 4-banger turbo, this is as close to being a drivers car as a non-v6-rwd can be Amazingly comfortable long distance cruiser and very reliable as well. Suits well to Finnish winter. Also the 2. I also like that it doesn't have so much bells ans whistles, doesn't make it too complicated. But it has absolutely everything I need in a car. A bit on the heavy side and the V6 is thirsty, but I'm not gonna give it up.

Tim Rodie. Ben Welham. Nick Hynds. Doug F. John Coleman. Rules are rules! My first ever turbo car! Pretty well proportioned from the side.

Looks well when its clean! Sure its not going to win a handling contest or built quality against say a BMW but it was probably half the price. Its fast faster now its got an extra 45bhp and 70Nm of torque from a stage 1 remap has the comfiest seats i have ever owned and returns over 34mpg regularly.

Its not as radical a design as the older Saabs and to be honest if i had the spare loot i would have a Carlsson in a heart beat, but not as a daily driver. I think top gear got it right when they waved goodbye to Saab. Architects and people who are individual and creative like Saabs. CarCluster posts months. That magic word "turbo" - black 99 Turbo, early 80's and the rallying contributed to being my fave car for a couple of weeks one summer. I like the way the turbo comes in. Or rather the lack of feeling, all rather sedate even if you can in theory break the limit in a decent time for a weighty saloon.

I miss Saabie. I sold him, and regretted it - changed my mind, but it had already been sold on Expected to be a nightmare to start, started on the first turn of the key with no hesitation Horse Pop posts months. I got a 2. But I like it as it has an engineered quality to it - the switches all 'clunk' and the door hinges look like they've been crafted from bits of the Forth bridge. I think one of the main reasons I bought it is that it isn't a BMW or Audi, and doesn't attract the one-upmanship that those marques seem to have.

No-one looks down their noses at an old-ish Saab, they seem to have a certain shabby-chic quality. That said, the diesel engine is hardly cutting-edge and smokes like a dreadnought on hard acceleration. I'd rather have got a petrol turbo, but the missus insisted on diesel. MrMoonyMan 2, posts months. Ahh, I'll join this thread! Alongside the work cars I've always run a Saab or two. When the XF came out I also had my classic turbo set up and working well, I'd almost always jump into the as I like to enjoy getting from A to B.

Some might find this grudge outdated. These people have never spent time at my holiday meals. That anti-brand brand we mentioned earlier also attracts the type of person that doesn't want to conform, but still cherishes quality.

Going back, Saab has quirk factor with its eccentric touches, like the boxy exterior and floor set ignition. The Saab even had windshield wipers for the headlights. But, what drew its fans ultimately killed the brand. But a crowd is what a dying business needs. Skip to content Site Navigation The Atlantic. Popular Latest. The Atlantic Crossword.
